Twillingate

I read several years ago that a famous opera singer named Georgina Ann Stirling and stage-named Marie Toulinquet was born here in Twillingate, it was a very interesting piece of Newfoundland history/pop culture (?) to say the least. She was affectionately named Nightingale of the North and accepted singing engagements from Milan, Italy, Paris and America until succumbing to a throat ailment that ended her career. Who would have thought that a little fishing village in Newfoundland once upon a time would produce a world renowned singing sensation. ...And imagine how much of a big deal that would be if it were today. She probably would have sung alongside with Pavarotti!
